Dear CSD Families,
Welcome back! We hope you and your families enjoyed a restful and joyful winter recess filled with meaningful moments, laughter, and new memories. As we begin this new chapter of the school year together, it has been wonderful to welcome our students back into our classrooms.
This first week back has been a smooth and positive one across all of our schools. Students at both the elementary and middle school levels jumped right back into their routines, engaging in classwork, reconnecting with friends, and building strong relationships with peers and staff. It has been especially encouraging to see students collaborating, socializing, and continuing to form lasting bonds within their school communities.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day – Fun Facts & Learning Moments
As we prepare to honor Martin Luther King Jr. Day, here are a few interesting facts that you may enjoy sharing at home:
- Dr. King was only 26 years old when he helped lead the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
- His famous “I Have a Dream” speech was delivered in 1963 to more than 250,000 people at the March on Washington.
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day is the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service, encouraging people to give back to their communities.
- Dr. King earned a doctoral degree and believed strongly in the power of education to create change.
- His message focused on kindness, fairness, courage, and peaceful problem-solving, values we continue to reinforce in our schools.
Our classrooms will take time to reflect on Dr. King’s legacy through meaningful discussions and activities that highlight respect, service, and community.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We are grateful to work alongside our families to ensure our students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Wishing you and your family a happy, healthy, and successful new year.
Take care,
Michael Chaix, Ed.D. Superintendent

Rancho Cucamonga Middle School By Principal Bobby Collins
Happy New Year! RCMS is pumped for 2026, and we were excited to welcome students and staff back to school this week after a well-deserved break. January starts our 2nd semester, and the ‘Race to May’. We know that these next five months will fly by, and promotion will be here before we know it.
With a new semester comes a new elective for many of our students. At the middle school, we are pleased to offer a wide range of classes and experiences that students have an option to enjoy over the course of their career at RCMS. These classes include band, chorus, theatre, art, ceramics, Spanish, computer science, leadership, and ASB. Electives are a great way for RCMS Lions to flex their creativity and learn valuable skills. Some classes, like our Spanish program, even help prepare our students to move into higher levels of achievement in high school and beyond. Even with everything our electives offer students during the day, we have additional programs students participate in after school. Beyond our after-school clubs and ThinkTogether, the RCMS yearbook team meets regularly after the school day ends to creatively capture the history of our year and the culture of our campus. We can’t wait to see what this year’s yearbook team has to offer.
Another team that meets after school is our dance team. This award-winning group of students is heading into their competition season. They’ll start off next week at Disneyland where they've been invited to take part in a special dance clinic. We wish them the best of luck in their winter and spring activities.
Finally, RCMS Athletics is gearing up for basketball season. Be sure to come out and cheer on our lions as they battle the Ruth Musser Bulldogs and the Cucamonga Middle School Cougars. Each and every day, there is something fantastic happening at RCMS. Go Lions!
