Dear CSD Families;
As we approach a much-needed and well-earned break in the school year, I want to extend my warmest wishes to you and your loved ones for a joyful holiday season and a happy New Year. I hope this time brings moments of rest, renewal, laughter, and meaningful connection for your family.
I also want to acknowledge that this season can feel complicated for many. Alongside celebration, there may be loss, stress, or uncertainty. Please know that our school community sees you, values you, and cares deeply about you. My hope is that you find comfort, peace, and support in whatever ways you need most during the holidays.
This time of year, often invites reflection. I’m reminded of a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Christmas Bells, which captures both the heaviness we sometimes feel and the enduring hope that continues to ring through it all. A short excerpt reads:
“I heard the bells on Christmas Day, Their old familiar carols play… Of peace on earth, good-will to men.”
Longfellow wrote these words during a time of personal loss and national hardship, yet as the bells continued to ring, he chose to listen for hope amid uncertainty. That message feels especially meaningful today, when the world can sometimes feel overwhelming and it’s easy to lose sight of the good.
As we head into winter break, my hope is that students and families are able to step away, recharge, and enjoy time that restores you. If you are carrying heaviness, may you find moments of peace. If you are celebrating, may those moments be filled with joy.
Thank you for being such an important part of our school community. Your partnership, support, and care for our students make a lasting difference every day, and we are truly grateful.
Wishing you a season of peace, renewal, and hope as we look ahead to the new year together.
With gratitude and warm wishes, Michael Chaix, Ed.D. Superintendent
