SUPERINTENDENT'S WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
11/7/2025

Dear CSD Families,

What an inspiring week it has been!

We had the pleasure of visiting several of our elementary campuses, and we left each one so impressed by the excitement for learning and the dedication of our teachers and students.

At one site, children reflected on their Portrait of a Graduate goals and demonstrated growth, confidence, and purpose. We saw Orton-Gillingham literacy lessons in action, creative AI reader’s theater performances, and hands-on math and science learning that brought concepts to life.

In another, classrooms were full of curiosity and collaboration. Students practiced literacy skills with “red words” and sentence building, explored measurement in Illustrative Mathematics, and used data charts and circle maps to make learning both fun and meaningful. We were also inspired by the ways teachers are nurturing social-emotional growth and celebrating student success.

Everywhere we go, we see our district vision in action, children who are curious, capable, and compassionate learners. I’m so proud of the great work happening across our schools.

As we head into the long weekend, I want to take a moment to honor and thank all who have served in our armed forces. In observance of Veterans Day, schools will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, November 10 and 11.

I hope you all enjoy a safe, restful, and meaningful four-day weekend.

If you enjoyed this newsletter, give us a like to let us know! We’d also love to hear from you.  Feel free to message us with suggestions for topics you’d like to see featured in future newsletters. Your feedback helps us celebrate and share the incredible work happening across our district.

Honoring Native American Heritage Month

This November, our school is proudly celebrating Native American Heritage Month, a time to recognize and honor the history, culture, and lasting contributions of Native American peoples and communities.

Each week, I have the privilege of sharing read aloud stories with our Cubs that highlight Native voices, experiences, and values. These weekly read-alouds have already begun to spark curiosity and thoughtful conversations among students, helping to deepen their understanding of Indigenous cultures and traditions. It is inspiring to see our Cubs listen with empathy, ask questions with respect, and engage with stories that reflect the rich diversity of our nation’s history.

Classroom Book Donation
To ensure the learning continues beyond November, every classroom received a copy of Be A Good Ancestor by Leona Prince and Gabrielle Prince, a beautifully written and illustrated book inspiring readers to find their own beautiful potential. This powerful story aligns with our district’s Portrait of a Graduate and site commitment to social responsibility, empathy, and environmental stewardship.

As part of our district’s Portrait of a Graduate, students continue to build their skills in Social and Cross-Cultural Understanding. This month allows for meaningful opportunities to recognize and appreciate Native American traditions and contributions while reflecting on the importance of empathy, respect, and unity in our school community and beyond.

Our goal is to ensure that the stories and voices of Indigenous peoples are not only honored in November but woven into our learning throughout the year. Thank you for supporting this work at home by continuing the conversations, reading together, and celebrating the rich cultural fabric of our community.

Together, we are raising thoughtful, inclusive, and compassionate Cubs—one story, one conversation, and one shared experience at a time.
