Cucamonga Elementary School By Principal Dr. Tremayne
Honoring Native American Heritage Month
This November, our school is proudly celebrating Native American Heritage Month, a time to recognize and honor the history, culture, and lasting contributions of Native American peoples and communities.
Each week, I have the privilege of sharing read aloud stories with our Cubs that highlight Native voices, experiences, and values. These weekly read-alouds have already begun to spark curiosity and thoughtful conversations among students, helping to deepen their understanding of Indigenous cultures and traditions. It is inspiring to see our Cubs listen with empathy, ask questions with respect, and engage with stories that reflect the rich diversity of our nation’s history.
Classroom Book Donation To ensure the learning continues beyond November, every classroom received a copy of Be A Good Ancestor by Leona Prince and Gabrielle Prince, a beautifully written and illustrated book inspiring readers to find their own beautiful potential. This powerful story aligns with our district’s Portrait of a Graduate and site commitment to social responsibility, empathy, and environmental stewardship.
As part of our district’s Portrait of a Graduate, students continue to build their skills in Social and Cross-Cultural Understanding. This month allows for meaningful opportunities to recognize and appreciate Native American traditions and contributions while reflecting on the importance of empathy, respect, and unity in our school community and beyond.
Our goal is to ensure that the stories and voices of Indigenous peoples are not only honored in November but woven into our learning throughout the year. Thank you for supporting this work at home by continuing the conversations, reading together, and celebrating the rich cultural fabric of our community.
Together, we are raising thoughtful, inclusive, and compassionate Cubs—one story, one conversation, and one shared experience at a time.
