SUPERINTENDENT'S WEEKLY NEWSLETTER

Dear CSD Families:

What an inspiring visit we had to our classrooms this week! Everywhere we looked, students were filled with energy, curiosity, and pride in their learning.

In math, students were using charts, number lines, and creative strategies to explain their thinking and solve problems together—it was amazing to see their confidence and teamwork in action. I also loved seeing “I Can” statements and Portrait of a Graduate goals guiding students to think critically, create boldly, and grow as problem solvers.

Our teachers continue to lead with innovation—some are even exploring new AI tools to help shape the future of learning. Fun fact: the world of AI is changing so quickly that the tools students use today may soon be helping them discover entirely new ways to learn and create!

A big thank-you as well to our campus and nutrition teams for keeping our schools welcoming and our students well-fed and happy.

Families, thank you for your partnership and positivity. Your support helps us continue building a caring, connected, and thriving community where every child can learn, grow, and reach their full potential.

Take care,

Michael Chaix, Ed.D.

SCHOOL SPOTLIGHT

Rancho Cucamonga Middle School

By Principal Mr. Bobby Collins

As October comes to a close this week, we reflect on the work being done at RCMS. We are so proud of our students and the exceptional effort they give both in and out of the classroom. There are daily examples of students and staff members working together to deepen learning and strengthen the durable skills of our POG (Portrait of a Graduate). Earlier this month, our 6th grade students combined math and physical fitness, learning about calculating their pace and measuring distances. Working together with peers, students flexed their critical thinking, problem solving, and resilience skills. 8th grade students have started the annual “Triangle Trade”. During this experience, students learn about colonialism, mercantilism, and the principles of the trade policies in which the British colonies engaged prior to the American Revolution. Students participate as members of various colonies, buying and selling products that represent the historical goods exchanged during the triangle trade between European, African, and North American settlements. Each colony establishes their own profit margins on each of their products.  Students learn to “buy low and sell high” by applying the concepts of wholesale and retail prices. The activity also focuses on how the British manipulated the trade system through unfair taxation policies which ultimately led to the American Declaration of Independence. Throughout this process. students need to utilize lots of initiative, self-direction, strong communication skills, and creativity. Special thanks to our staff members who create and carry out these experiences for our students. As we head into November, we are thankful for all of our staff members as well as the families of RCMS. Go Lions!
